Given New Zealand’s vast population of sheep, its no surprise that one of the most popular dishes in the country is a lamb burger. And not just any lamb burger, but a Fergburger. Fergburger is a cult favorite in Queenstown, NZ, a dark, divey burger joint with a consistent line around the block. I’ve been there. It is amazing.
So when I found out that the owners of Dunedin were so inspired by their own taste of Fergburger that they decided to bring it to San Diego, I had to try it. They even license some of their amazing sauces and recipes to ensure that every detail of those glorious burgers is perfect. And they succeeded.
My favorite? The Bare Lamb Burger with blue cheese, mint jelly, and beet root. I wasn’t sure the flavor combination was going to work, but it went together perfectly. The lamb was tender and delicious. The bun held up to the juicy meat. And even better, every day from 3-6pm a smaller version, the Lamb Slider, is only $5, along with select beer and wine!
Looking for a beef burger? Dunedin has that covered as well! Try Sheila’s Cracked – organic grass-fed beef with edam cheese, fried egg, and beets.
The burgers don’t come with fries, so you have your choice. I love the classic skinny fries but was blown away by the portobello fries with rosemary dipping sauce. Super thick pieces of portobello are perfectly cooked with a delicious dipping sauce!
For a spicy dinner with a homestyle feel, try the fried habanero chicken. Chicken has a delicious kick of spice and comes with grilled corn on the cob, peppers, and potatoes.
