Beer and Bourbon for Breakfast at barleymash

Tourists walking past barleymash assume the Gaslamp staple is just a sports bar. Locals know that having a lot of flat screens showing sports does not define this culinary secret. Beer and bourbon does. The name barleymash refers to the typical grain mixture used in the brewing and distillation process of both beer and bourbon. The made-from-scratch menu takes its inspiration from these two libations as well, with almost every dish incorporating one. Executive Chef Kevin Templeton makes magic with unique spins on classic bar food and takes brunch to a whole new level.  For sharable starters, try:Duck Empanadas – duck confit with sweet corn, arugula, and goat cheese, drizzled with lime crema and served with poblano beer cheese. Pretzels N Dip – house made garlic butter pretzels with with poblano beer cheese and whole grain honey porter mustard.   The menu of iron fries is great for sharing as well, as are their flatbreads. The salads and “barleymacs” mac n cheese selections are not to be missed.
For brunch, served on Saturdays and Sundays, a bloody mary bar and create your own mimosa station round out exceptional breakfast dishes like hard cider bread pudding french toast with sweet agave cream cheese and seasonal berries. Don’t miss the Java the Hutt coffee cocktail either, a delicious combo of cold brew, Ballast Point Fugu Horchata Vodka, white chocolate, cream, and sugar.
Known for their weekend night DJ and dance floor, barleymash is bringing music to their brunch as well. The soulful tunes of Ryan Hiller were a great accompaniment to a relaxing Sunday brunch with jazz and blues covers of much loved songs.
