April 10 – El Jardín guest chef dinner 

On April 10, chef Claudette Zepeda-Wilkins welcomes celebrated chef Francisco Migoya (Modernist Cuisine) for the first time ever to San Diego for a special, limited-seating Food Memorias guest chef dinner at her regional Mexican restaurant, El Jardín. After becoming fast friends on social media and utilizing the platform throughout the years to exchange ideas, Zepeda-Wilkins and Migoya come together to offer a one-night-only, 6-course menu featuring courses such as chicken liver mousse croquetas topped with caviar, “potato salad” risotto made with fermented sunflower seed milk and topped with a marinated egg and a Mother Earth wild mushroomtamal paired with huitlacoche sourdough from Migoya, served with mole butter and toasted seeds. 
For dessert, Migoya will craft avant-garde creations, such as a prickly pear sorbet sandwich made with a butter sable cookie colored with chlorella powder; as well as a layered dessert inspired by Mexico’s tallest volcano, Citlaltepetl (Pico de Orizaba). Created with the help of a 3D printed mold, the elaborate pastry features Mexican cinnamon chantilly cream, Mexican chocolate cremeaux and a vanilla shortbread cookie base with a hot cinnamon infusion to emulate a volcanic eruption. The constructed desserts serve as an edible preview for the forthcoming Modernist Cuisine photo gallery, which debuts this summer in the heart of La Jolla Village and spotlights Nathan Myhrvold’s stunning photography of Francisco & his team’s culinary creations.

April 11 – Wine Dinner featuring Domaine Carneros Winery 
The heart of Domaine Carneros has always been sparkling wines, with distinctive styles ranging from the classic vintage-dated Brut cuvée to their luxury Le Rêve Blanc de Blancs. Join THE MED for a multi-course dinner full of creative plates by Chef Alex Emery and team, paired to the exquisite wines from Domaine Carneros. April 11 – Picnic in the Flowers

April 13 – Pilates and Ravioli Cooking Class at Giardino

April 13 – VinDiego

The seventh annual VinDiego Wine and Food Festival will be held on Saturday, April 13th at its all-new location, the Waterfront Park in San Diego. Top-tier wineries from all over California to points north throughout the Pacific Northwest Wine Region will be joined by esteemed local chefs for an afternoon of wine tasting, gourmet food and live music by award-winning artists.

Over 150 world-class wines will be poured from wineries based in Napa, Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Paso Robles, Santa Barbara, Lodi, and Temecula. Attendees can experience small production and award-winning pinots, chardonnays, zinfandels, syrahs, Rhône and Bordeaux-inspired blends. To add to the savory experience, gourmet cuisine will be served from some of San Diego’s best Chefs at the event.

Guests have the opportunity to bid on items at the VinDiego Silent Auction, with all proceeds benefiting its partner charity, the San Diego Italian Film Festival. Live musical entertainment will feature headliners Jimmy and Enrique. April 13 – The Westgate Spring Literary Tea with Whitney Sharer

Enjoy a three-course afternoon tea with champagne as you bask in the company of author Whitney Scharer as she discusses her captivating debut novel, The Age of Light. Written in interweaving timelines, The Age of Light tells the story of a Vogue model turned renowned photographer Lee Miller, and her search to forge a new identity as an artist after a life spent as a muse.

April 13 – The Barrel Experience Journey

Join Second Chance Beer Company for the release of Journey #3 of The Barrel Experience on Saturday, April 13. Journey #3, the Doppio Espresso, is an Imperial Stout that was aged 26 months in bourbon barrels and finished with freshly-roasted Indonesia Sumatra from Mostra Coffee, an artisan micro-roasting company that sources, roasts, brews, and serves only the highest-grade specialty coffee. The new release is anticipated to go fast with only 50 bottles available per location, and a limit of one per person. 

The Barrel Experience will take place from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at both Second Chance’s Carmel Mountain Ranch Brewery and Taproom, and at the North Park Beer Lounge on April 13. 

April 16 – Beast Feast dinner

Executive Chef Tim Kolanko of Urban Kitchen Group will host the second installment in CUCINA urbana’s 2019 Beast Feast dinner series on Tuesday, April 16th where guests can enjoy a family-style buffalo (aka bison) themed menu. The Beast Feast series serves as creative outlet for CUCINA’s culinary team and aims to educate guests on techniques and sourcing based on sustainability and seasonal cooking. Guests can expect dishes like buffalo cannelloni with roasted tomato sauce, and a strawberry rhubarb tart with buffalo milk ice cream. Following Spring’s buffalo themed dinner, Summer’s dining event will feature sustainable, locally caught tuna on July 16th. April 17 – Tequila Mixology Class

Tequila lovers will take over Indigo Grill on Wednesday, April 17th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for a cocktail class featuring El Tesoro tequila. Learn to make four handcrafted tequila cocktails complete with spice rims. Light bites will be served during the class. April 17 – Mean Girls Trivia

April 18 – Padres Pedal the Cause

Join in the fight against cancer as survivors, families, riders and cycling enthusiasts alike help to kick off the launch of Padres Pedal the Cause’s 2019 fundraising season at Culture Brewing Co. in Solana Beach on Thursday, April 18th from 5 to 8 p.m. On a mission to fund cures for cancer, Padres Pedal is San Diego’s most impactful cancer research funding organization—donating more than $10 million since its inception in 2013. The upcoming open-to-the-public family friendly and free-to-attend kick off event invites supporters to bike alongside fellow riders on one of two routes out and back through Torrey Pines. But you don’t have to ride in order to celebrate and raise awareness! Enjoy a pint or two at Culture Brewing Co. and the Up In Smoke food truck will be on-site, who alongside Culture will be donating a generous portion of proceeds from the evening back to Padres Pedal to fund a world without cancer.  All attendees have a chance to win a variety of cycling industry prize packs with gear and gifts. April 18 – Mexcal Dinner

Mezcal bar and tasting room Tahona in Old Town will host a one-night-only dinner event with Mexico’s artisanal Mezcal Vago on Thursday, April 18 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Celebrating the culturally vibrant region of Oaxaca, where Mezcal Vago seeks out and sources from talented small batch mezcaleros, this four course meal designed by Tahona’s Executive Chef Adrian Villareal will also bring in Mezcal Vago founder Judah Kuper attending to guide guests through each tasting. April 19 & 20 –And Two If By Sea” World Premiere and Screenings

Theatre Box® will host two screenings of “And Two If By Sea” this weekend. Directed by innovative filmmaker Justin Purser and narrated by comedian Daniel Tosh of Comedy Central’s “Tosh.0,” “And Two If By Sea” is a project five years in the making that documents the legacy of world-renowned professional surfers and identical twins, CJ and Damien Hobgood. “And Two If By Sea” is a study into the lives of the twins set to the backdrop of brothers’ competitive journey on the World Surf League’s Championship Tour. Through captivating scenery of iconic surf spots and interviews with top professional surfers, the film tells the story of this classic sibling rivalry and struggle of each to establish their own identity that fueled their careers, but in turn ripped their personal lives apart. The screenings are scheduled for 10 p.m. Friday, April 19 and noon Saturday, April 20.

April 20 – 4/20 at Spill the Beans

April 22 – Duck Dive Earth Day Beach Cleanup

PB’s beach lounge and eatery, The Duck Dive is hosting their Annual Beach Cleanup on Earth Day, April 22nd from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Want to get involved? Meet at the Duck Dive at 10, no need to sign-up just show up ready to help project our ocean and beloved Pacific Beach by picking up trash and plastic pollution. Gloves, trash bags and trash pickers will all be provided and after the cleanup, all volunteers will receive tasty brews, swag and hot dogs for lunch!

April 22 – Woodstock’s Pizza Earth Day Street Cleanup

Woodstock’s Pizza isn’t afraid to get their hands a little dirty (literally!) in the battle against litter. In partnership with Don’t Trash PB, Woodstock’s is hosting an Earth Day Street Clean Up event for students and locals to clean up trash before it gets to our beaches and oceans!

From 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, April 22nd, Woodstock’s Pizza and local community group Don’t Trash PB will be hosting a neighborhood litter cleanup. Volunteers will meet at Woodstock’s Pizza in Pacific Beach at 5:30 PM to receive their official “Don’t Trash PB” cleanup buckets and grabbers before heading out to take on the litter problem! Simply Venmo $15 for your materials and earn your money back in full when you and your crew trade in three full buckets of trash. After cleaning up the streets, Woodstock’s Pizza will host an after party for all participants including free Bingo, free dessert Cinnabread pies and 50% off pitchers of beer for a well-deserved Earth Day celebration.

April 25 – Japenese Whiskey Dinner

Stake Chophouse & Bar in Coronado will be celebrating an evening of exclusive whisky tastings with Whisky Expert, Adam Parker of Wine Warehouse —  one of the largest beverage distributers in the state. Alongside Executive Chef Andrew Kedziora, Adam will be guiding guests through a tasting of four Kaiyō whiskies and Hibiki ‘Japanese Harmony,’ considered some of the most highly-regarded Japanese whiskies on the market. Guests can enjoy a four-course meal featuring dishes including a triple-seared 100-day dry-aged NY Strip steak preparedwith wasabi, spinach Ohitashi, and coffee brown butter for $99 per person. April 26-27 – Spring Shopping Expo

Queen Bee Market will put a spring in shopping with a two-day market on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Described as “Etsy comes to life,” the popular urban-style handmade market is feminine and fun, hosting vendors who showcase an array of artisanal home décor, accessories, clothing, paper arts, vintage items, furniture and more.

Queen Bee Market will feature nearly 100 hand-selected artisans, including local and regional crafters, such as Chalk Couture, a chalk-centric line of DIY home décor; and Blessed Little Bird, maker of customizable jewelry and trinkets. Aside from all the spring shopping opportunities, Queen Bee Market also has interactive workshops and make-and-take stations. Some of this year’s workshops include learning to create hand-stamped jewelry, making and using essential oils to keep pets healthy and pest-free, and more. This year, Queen Bee Market is also partnering with the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank. There will be donation barrels at the market to collect non-perishable food items, and there’s a virtual food drive where people can securely donate funds before they arrive at the market. Queen Bee Market takes place from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 26 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 at Wyland Hall at The Del Mar Fairgrounds. Tickets are priced at $3 per person and will be available for purchase at the door. Children 12 years old and younger and military with ID will receive free entry.

April 28 Gather Dinner Series: Land & Sea with Pacifica Del Mar
Del Mar Village presents the Gather pop-up dinner series. Celebrate the chefs of Del Mar with exclusive, off-the-menu culinary experiences paired with delicious wine and spirit tastings designed to accentuate the extraordinary flavors of the menu. Gather: Land & Sea at Pacifica Del Mar is the first edition of the series, in which Chef Chris Idso has carefully crafted the night’s menu with dishes inspired by the turf and surf of Southern California. The night begins with a special barrel-aged whiskey tasting and hors d’oeuvres, followed by an experiential multi-course dinner paired with wines from the Russian River Valley. April 27 – 80’s Brunch
A crazy little thing called brunch! Searsucker Del Mar Highlands is flashing back to the 80’s on the last Saturday of every month, starting April 27th. Dust off your leg warmers for a themed brunch filled with all your favorite hits from the 80’s. They’ll be serving Del Mar’s favorite weekend brunch menu and bottomless mimosas, plus an entire menu of themed drinks like “Girls Just Wanna Have Rum,” “Dr. Feelgood,” “Love Shack Smash” & so much more!
