It’s a bird…it’s a plane…it’s Comic-Con taking over downtown San Diego on July 18th and The Gaslamp the spot where cosplayers, superhumans and those just looking to people watch can grab some grub and rest their weary feet. Catch all the action from the unofficial headquarters for Comic-Con!
San Diego’s fastest growing breakfast concept, Breakfast Republic, will be offering ‘Con attendees a special evening menu during extended hours, for Thursday July 18 – Sunday, July 21. Marvel-inspired dishes and drinks include Justice League Mac ‘n’ Cheeseloaded with shrimp, Jurassic Pork bacon, cheddar cheese sauce and parmesan cheese, and their Daredevil Burger piled high with asadero cheese, roasted jalapeno, roasted tomatoes, avocado, jalapeno aioli and fried egg, among other Marvel-inspired dishes. Pack a punch with Comic-Con drink specials such as the Hunky Hulk, infused with muddled basil and cucumber, gin, lemon juice and simple syrup, the Dark Knight, brimming with cold brew, horchata vodka, Kahlua and chocolate bitters, and the Marvel-Rita, concocted from muddled serrano, pineapple, mezcal, tequila, lemon juice and a tajin rim, to name a few. Regular breakfast menu available from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.; special Comic-Con dinner menu available from 3 p.m. – 9 p.m. for 7/18 – 7/21. East Village location only.
Primavera Ristorante will race into Comic-Con International with featured dishes and a specialty cocktail inspired by the classic Super Mario characters. The popular Italian restaurant will offer guests two Mario-inspired dishes: Super Mario Brothers Meatballs, house-made pork and beef meatballs stuffed with creamy ricotta and served with house-made marinara, available for $12; and Mario Marsala, sautéed chicken breast with fresh mushrooms in Marsala wine sauce, priced at $28. The Luigi Martini, made with gin, dry vermouth, Cointreau, grenadine and orange juice, will also be available for $14.
To celebrate Comic-Con, Bub’s at the Ballpark will be hosting Superhero Trivia on Tuesday, July 16th at 8pm. There will be drink and food specials and a 1st place cash prize. Kicking off the festivities before the convention starts, the event serves to celebrate Comic-Con before the crowds set in.

In honor of Comic-Con, The Blind Burro has created two exclusive Comic-Con themed cocktails, each served in large goblets. The first drink, a margarita titled “Pomegranate Power Stone Margarita,” is Avengers themed, and consists of Partida Blanco Tequila, Pama Liqueur, Lime Juice, Pomegranate Agave Syrup and a salt rim with a lime wedge and pomegranate seeds. Their second exclusive special is a Star Wars themed “Finn’s F’in Spicy Margarita” made with Partida Blanco, Ancho Reyes Verde, Lime Juice, Jalapeno Syrup, Serrano Chiles and a Tajin rim with a lime wedge and half a serrano chile.
Bleu Bohème will celebrate with a cocktail that guests will want to catch in their webs – the ‘Femme d’Araignée,’ or Spider-Woman. Inspired by the superheroine, the cocktail will be available Thursday, July 18 through Sunday, July 21. Bleu Bohème’s Femme d’Araignée is made with rye whisky, Ramos Pinto fine ruby port, lemon juice and simple syrup, topped with soda water, priced at $14.
This Comic-Con, Thanos is coming to Death by Tequila! The Baja-inspired restaurant will offer guests a cocktail inspired by the Avengers supervillain, made with lime, mezcal, ancho reyes and citrus dragonfruit purée, garnished with an orange peel.
El Chingon will ‘strike back’ with three Star Wars-inspired cocktails: Vader-rita, made with agave blanco tequila, fresh lime juice and organic agave nectar, topped with a paleta and served in a goblet, priced at $25; Palpatine’s Paloma, made with El Jimador blanco tequila, fresh lime, salt and choice of Jarritos, priced at $12; and Kylo’s Kooler, made with Azuñia blanco tequila, house-made watermelon cordial, lime and tajin, available for $12.
Prohibition will prepare three Jedi-inspired cocktails, including: Crazy Old Ben, made with Russell’s Reserve single-barrel bourbon, demerara and R&D bitters; There Is Another Skywalker, made with bourbon, lemon, honey and R&D Sarsaparilla bitters; and Use the Force Luke!, a combination of Dobel añejo tequila, lime, honey and R&D bitters. The cocktails will be priced at $14 each.
Mezé Greek Fusion will offer cocktails inspired by Star Wars’ Old Republic, including: Darth Revan Cooler, made with RumHaven coconut rum, fresh lime, pineapple, mint, vanilla and allspice; Ebon Hawk, a choice of Nolet’s gin or Ketel One vodka, fresh lime, ginger beer and bitters; and Grey Jedi Jungle Juice, made with Dobel Diamanta GBOD single-barrel tequila, mango purée, Ancho Reyes verde, fresh lime and R&D fire bitters. The cocktails will be available for $13 each.
Havana 1920 will raise a glass to the Star Wars rebels with three featured cocktails, priced at $12 each: Dantooine Daquiri, made with Havana Club añejo rum, fresh lime juice, and fresh sugarcane syrup; Mon Calamari Mojito, made with Havana Club añejo rum, fresh lime juice, yerba buena, fresh-pressed sugarcane juice, sugarcane syrup and club soda; and Yavin Four, made with Diplomatico rum, fresh pineapple juice, fresh lime juice, apricot liqueur and R&D aromatic bitters.
Theatre Box, the new luxury cinema, dining and entertainment complex in the Gaslamp Quarter, will introduce a limited edition menu that includes: The Deadpool Wrap, tomato tortilla, crispy chicken, romaine lettuce, parmesan, croutons and buffalo dressing, priced at $17; Do or Do Not Yoda Wrap, spinach tortilla, turkey, bacon, tomato, lettuce, avocado and chipotle aioli, priced at $17; The Wonder Woman Salad, quinoa, kale, tomato, cucumber, carrots, mint, basil and lemon vinaigrette, priced at $14; The Iron Fist Salad, strawberry, farro, baby arugula, goat cheese, shaved fennel, crispy shallots and balsamic vinaigrette, priced at $14; Captain America Burger, blue brioche bun, certified Black Angus beef, Vermont white cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickles, crispy onions and Sugar Factory sauce, priced at $21; Shazam! Hot Dog, topped with aged cheddar cheese and relish, served on a brioche bun, priced at $12; Hulk Sliders, Sugar Factory’s classic miniature burgers served on green buns with American cheese, crispy onions, Sugar Factory sauce and a take-home duckie, priced at $25.
For Comic-Con this year, all San Diego Tajima locations will be offering a specialty Naruto Ramen! Named for a Japanese manga series that tells the story of a young ninja, this bowl is made up of miso broth, pork chashu, a half ramen egg, sautéed garlic shiitake mushrooms, green onions, baby bok choy and Naruto fishcake. Comic-Con goers can check out the East Village location, which is close to the Convention Center. Additionally, at Tajima’s Mercury location during the month of July, they have special drinks! To celebrate the return of Comic-Con to San Diego, Tajima has crafted three, delicious Pokémon-themed cocktails that will be available throughout the month. Visit to try the Strawmander, made with strawberry and citrus liqueurs, the Tikichu, with vodka, floral liqueurs and pineapple, and the Bluebasaur, a blend of rum, orange and mixed tropical liqueurs.
East Village’s WhipHand is going post-zombie apocalypse for Comic-Con this year, with specialty Walking Dead food and drink items. Come in with your Comic-Con badge and/or in costume to enjoy the half-priced Walker cocktail, a blend of white rum, Jamaican rum, Overproof, citrus, falernum, orgeat and pineapple. Your badge and/or costume will also get you $7 SKINS – a plate of potato skins covered in sour cream, cheese and bacon, with truffle dressing on the side, as well as Happy Hour pricing on food and drink at any time during the convention.
barleymash is offering diners a themed menu featuring dishes from The Caped Crusader mac and cheese to The Riddler dessert, a double fudge chocolate cake with house-made mint ice cream. Bartenders will be shaking up Superhero cocktails like Poison Ivy, a blend of Herradua Blanco Tequila, cucumber, mint, agave, lime and tajin. barleymash also partnered with Thorn St. Brewing to create a Brews Wayne Juicy Hazy IPA specifically for Comic-Con!
