Beating the Heat with Cool Vibes and Craft Cocktails at Mavericks Beach Club

By April 18, 2018 No Comments

With temperatures rising, it’s already starting to feel like a precursor to summer in San Diego. Because let’s be honest – you know you’re a local when you can tell the difference between 70 and 75 degrees (70 still being jeans weather, and 75 means the cutoffs and flip flops come out, and everyone flocks to the beach). We also know that the inevitable “May Gray” and “June Gloom” will shortly be upon us, so we’re encouraging you to join us in soaking up as much sunshine this April as we possibly can in one of our favorite neighborhoods, Pacific Beach!

After getting your fill of surf, sun, and sand, head to Garnet Avenue’s newest bar and restaurant concept, Mavericks Beach Club. The dual-level space features casual outdoor picnic benches, plush indoor booths, live music, games, an elaborate cocktail menu, plus a patio from their upstairs bar – prime viewing space for people watching and catching the sunset!

Mavericks recently partnered with Jameson Irish Whiskey as part of the Love Thy Neighborhood campaign supporting Keep America Beautiful, and hosted an event featuring food and beverages from a variety of San Diego neighborhoods.

The venue’s layout allowed for each area to have its own neighborhood theme, a Jameson-based cocktail or beer from a local brewery, plus live music from local artists, simultaneously performing on different stages.

Attendees headed upstairs to enjoy “Downtown” compete with the Gaslamp sign, a DJ pumping house music, and fancy finger food.

Immediately downstairs, “Barrio Logan” had a whiskey-based tajin-salt rimmed take on a margarita.

The outdoor patio had converted to the “Beach Neighborhoods” with Adirondack chairs, umbrella-covered picnic tables, acoustic music and tropical drinks.  At the outdoor bar, attendees also had the opportunity to try a flight of various Jameson whiskeys.

Inside the bar, “Hillcrest/Uptown” featured Barbie-rimmed chandeliers, a rainbow-backed bar, pink flamingos, and disco balls hanging from the ceiling.

The adjacent parking lot converted into the “North Park Beer Garden” containing the main music stage, several local breweries, and a taco truck dishing out fish and chicken tacos heaped with guacamole.

While we’re keeping our fingers crossed for another Jameson/Mavericks event mashup, the Love Thy Neighborhood Block Party was a phenomenal showcase of what the team at Mavericks Beach Club is capable of. The huge floorplan is easily segmented into both casual and clubby atmospheres offering venue space for whatever guests are seeking, with plenty of room to spread out.  After glancing at the menu, we can’t wait to come back to try the mouth-watering shareable plates, creative cocktails and brunch. We think this locale is going to be a mainstay!
