Yesterday, more than 40,000 people came to Del Mar for the notorious Opening Day of the races. The festival hat contest brought out some splashy fashion while David Hasselhoff provided celebrity.
Now that Opening Day has come and gone, there is a whole summer of fun to look forward to at the racetrack! More than just racing, there are tons of food & beverage events happening this summer:
Burgers & Brews Saturday, July 21 – Tickets include unlimited tastes of San Diego’s finest burgers, five tasters from a selection of top craft brews plus racetrack admission.
Donuts Days Saturdays, July 28 and August 11 – Watch the horses work out, ask questions of famous jockeys and trainers and enjoy free coffee, juice and donuts on the Seaside Terrace. Track announcer Trevor Denman hosts from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.
Food Truck Festival Saturday, August 11 – Come enjoy a variety of some of the hottest eats in Southern California from real gourmet chefs as 40 gourmet food trucks serve their eclectic bests from noon to 6:00 p.m.
Craft Beer Festival Saturday, August 18 – Sample from over 100 different flavors of international and award-winning San Diego brews during the Craft Beer Fest.
Turf & Surf BBQ Sunday, August 19 – Tickets include UNLIMITED samples of competition-ready brisket, pork, ribs, chicken, steak and seafood from more than 30 of the nation’s top BBQ pitmasters competing for the State Championship, tasters from a selection of top craft brews, plus racetrack admission.
Brigantine Wednesdays Every Wednesday starting July 25 – Receive FREE Stretch Run Admission and FREE Seat along with taco specials and HALF PRICE beers and sodas. Just present your Diamond Club Card at the entry gate. (You can sign up on the mobile app for free.) This year, the racetrack has partnered with Brigantine’s famous fish tacos. Just like “Free & Easy” previously, “Brigantine Wednesdays” will provide free admissions, free programs and free Stretch Run seats to all Diamond Club members. This year, though, that offer becomes even better as the Brigantine brings its flavorful fish tacos into play at only $3 per tasty taco. Then throw in an added plus of a 16-ounce Coors Light for only $4 on Wednesdays and you’re a sure winner even before you make a bet. The Brig and brew pairings will be available in the track’s Plaza de Mexico. Diamond Club admission – which is free and takes only a two-minute sign up – is easily available either online (dmtc.com/app) or at several locations at the track.
Daybreak at Del Mar Saturdays and Sundays, 7:30–9:30 a.m. – Watch the horses in their morning workouts while enjoying a tasty breakfast in the Clubhouse Terrace Restaurant each weekend.
Four O’Clock Fridays Stay after the races for concerts and a rockin’ party with the Four O’Clock Friday Summer Concert Series presented by Toyota. Friday Happy Hour & Party in the Plaza Start the party early on Fridays with half off signature drinks until 6 PM and live music in the Plaza de Mexico.
