Located on the third floor of a historic building at 5th and E, in the Gaslamp District, Revel Revel is owned by Chef Nick Brune, who brings extensive cooking backgrounds to the venture. The 1,700 square foot space can hold a maximum of 245 guests standing or up to 150 guests seated. Different sizes of tables and chairs can also be quickly brought in and out as needed, to create everything from a 10-person board meeting to a rehearsal dinner.
Exposed brick walls, high ceilings, hardwood floors create an urban rustic feel while spacious windows provide a stunning view of Gaslamp. Revel Revel connects present day with the past with a series of colorful food and drink packages named after famous people or locations from San Diego’s past. For instance, The Horton, a catering package which includes buffet service or family-style service, is named after Alonzo Horton, one of the city’s largest early developers. The Stingaree, which includes plated meal service, is named after what was once one of the area’s most notorious downtown nightclubs.
But the food is much more than clever names. EcoCaters already has a reputation in the area for high-quality organic, locally-sourced and sustainable meals, and all meals are made from scratch. There’s also extensive alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink options for people interested in matching their libations with their food. Nick and Emily are happy to help clients plan the best meal choices for their guests based on factors like the type of event and audience.
It’s the perfect approach for Nick, who was raised in Louisiana and later was head chef at several catering companies in Los Angeles. Food is certainly a passion, and he’s a longtime advocate for the social experience the meals can present especially when gathering with friends and family.
