Route 29 has opened in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, bringing a Napa-inspired, farm-to-table “wining and dining” destination featuring an open kitchen. Start with one of the “Jars,” featuring house-layered creations such as Babaganoush, or their Chicken Cacciatore with mushrooms, garlic, tomatoes, herbs and bell peppers.
Small Bites include a beautifully presented Buffalo Filet Tartare with local avocado, garlic, capers, mango, and pomegranate salsa, topped with a poached quail egg.
For a light entree, try the scallops with corn three ways – scallops are served with a cornmeal crust, an apple bacon corn ragout, and on top of a saffron cognac sweet corn sauce.
For a more robust entree, try the filet. The 8 oz filet is served with sweet corn, roasted beets, bordelaise, and a bleu cheese sauce. With it, I highly recommend the side of butternut squash, a hearty portion with goat cheese and candied walnuts.
