San Diego Restaurant Week Returns April 11

The long-awaited San Diego Restaurant is back with a new ‘Spring Harvest’ theme! As vaccinations roll out, the California Restaurant Association has partnered with the San Diego County Health Department to ensure restaurants are safe, sanitary and adhering to all Restaurant Reopening Guidelines. The 17th Annual San Diego Restaurant Week returns Sunday, April 11th through Sunday, April 18, 2021.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said in a press conference “Our restaurants have long suffered through this pandemic. It has been particularly hard on restaurants, on small businesses, on our tourism and our event economy. So the collective sacrifice we’ve made over the last year is allowing us to slowly and safely reopen.” He continues, “My plea to San Diegans is – support these businesses. Let’s help San Diegans get back to work. Let’s make sure that we’re supporting the businesses that are coming out.”

Andy Baumann, San Diego Restaurant Week Chair continued, “From multiple rounds of closures to costly infrastructure investments to support safe outdoor dining, the strain on small business owners has been insurmountable for many. Our neighborhoods eateries need community support to dig out of these holes as we have just begun our climb back.  San Diego Restaurant Week will come at a perfect time for restaurateurs to create new dynamic offerings with the Spring Harvest and to generate the essential revenue they need to sustain business into the future.”

This new Spring Harvest edition of San Diego Restaurant Week features approximately 100 participating restaurants across the county. The meal deals are prix fixe, with special two-course lunch deals ranging from $10 to $25 per person and three-course dinner menus ranging from $20 to $60 per person.

The Smoking Goat in North Park is offering a $50 three course dinner menu for this San Diego Restaurant Week.

When Fred Piehl purchased the restaurant that he would turn into The Smoking Goat off of Craigslist ten years ago, the sleepy corner of 30th and Upas was not yet a culinary destination. Now, the french bistro sits across from trendy Underbelly, Influx, and the Modern Times Flavordome at the mouth of the 30th street dining thoroughfare. Sitting in ‘the Goat’, the timeless appeal is pronounced, feeling both rustic and elegant at the same time. Around the restaurant, diners are deep in conversation, their hands clutching forks or glasses of wine instead of cell phones. While so many restaurants in San Diego struggle to stand the test of time, The Smoking Goat has endured because of its consistency.

The Smoking Goat San Diego Restaurant Week menu features an array of choices, and we recommend starting with the French Onion Soup with veal bone broth, carmelized onion, toast and smothered with swiss cheese. For the main course, try the Duroc Pork Chop, juicy and tender served with mashed potatoes. For an additional $4 you can upgrade your main choice to the 14 ounce bone-in New York Strip, amplified with a red wine bordelaise sauce served with their famous Duckfat Truffle Fries. For dessert, indulge in the Flourless Chocolate Cake with Lillet cherries and whipped cream.
