Sandwiches you Knead to Try – National Sandwich Day

By November 1, 2017 No Comments

November 3rd is National Sandwich Day, a time to honor one of America’s most popular lunch items. We all know that when it comes to sandwiches, it’s what’s on the inside that counts.   A popular Kensington neighborhood lunch spot is The Haven Pizzeria, located on Adams Avenue. They not only offer delicious Neapolitan style pizzas, but their sandwiches are impressive as well. Try the Chicken Pesto, consisting of flavorful chicken, mozzarella, fresh pesto, lettuce and tomato, all served on a housemade bread roll with a side of mixed greens and balsamic dressing.   If you’re in the Carlsbad area on Friday, November 3rd, check out Park 101. To celebrate National Sandwich Day, customers can stop in for the scrumptious Smokey the Bear pulled pork sandwich, prepared with crispy onion rings, pickles, and coleslaw, all packed in between a sweet kolache roll. The sandwich also comes with your choice of coleslaw, potato salad, braised collard greens, seasoned fries, or a delicious corn and black bean salad.  Backyard Kitchen & Tap, found in the heart of Pacific Beach at Garnet Avenue and Mission Boulevard, has a made-from-scratch menu which includes the BKYD BLT. Applewood smoked bacon, tomato and arugula are sandwiched between slices of toasted artisan sourdough bread, with a basil aioli spread. To compliment the BLT, order a glass of Firestone Walker 805, a hoppy, versatile beer with a clean finish.  For a happening spot with a view, head to Sandbar Sports Bar & Grill in Mission Beach. A local favorite is the Grilled Ancho Chicken Sandwich, served on toasted brioche and made with avocado, spicy pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato and chipotle aioli. If you make it in between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., take advantage of their happy hour with $6 22-ounce drafts and $2 off selected specialty cocktails.  Breakfast lovers rejoice, for you too can celebrate National Sandwich Day at one of Fig Tree Café’s three locations; in Liberty Station, Pacific Beach or Hillcrest. Breakfast sandwiches are a popular choice for a hearty way to start your day, and the Eggwich is no egg-ception. Fried eggs, tomatoes, bacon, spinach and mozzarella cheese come on brioche bread, next to a heaping pile of house potatoes.   If you’ve not yet tasted one, Miss B’s Coconut Club boasts a delicious Cubano. The El Cubano is layers of lechon asado and smoked ham, gruyere cheese, bread and butter pickles, spiced mustard and cilantro garlic aioli, all on a Cuban roll.
